For those of you who live in or around Brooklyn, have you ever noticed these leaves peeking through concrete slabs on the sidewalks or in parks? These are violet leaves, and we actually use the natural violet leaf absolute in our exclusive Brooklyn fragrance.
You're probably wondering how we ever found a plant or flower to represent Brooklyn. Coastal violets and violet leaves are historically native to Brooklyn's marshland coasts. And with our impending store opening in Brooklyn, what better time than to spotlight the ever-present yet often ignored violet leaf.
Violet leaf smells nothing like violets, the flowers, but adds this metallic coolness and earthy fresh cut-grass feel to a fragrance. I actually found it rather complex to work with, as it can be very overpowering and can destroy an entire fragrance if not diluted properly. We used it to create our first Nomaterra Cologne called Brooklyn Violet Leaf, which will be exclusive only to our store (you won't even find it on our website).
We're OBSESSED with this scent—especially when it's worn on our men! Come check us out and try our Brooklyn Cologne and our other scents at The Shops at Kent, 240 Kent Ave., Brooklyn, NY 11249!)
Two weeks ago Nomaterra attended Missionelle's Art of Seduction
event at the Flatiron Hotel. At the event our founder Aggie discussed a number of scents and essential oils which are known to be aphrodisiacs and have been used throughout history in the art of seduction, which got us thinking about our own scents. Which of ours would be the best to use for a special date night, we wondered? As it turns out, our sultry Miami fragrance features six of these super seductive ingredients! Read on to learn about what those ingredients are and why they're so sexy!

Vanilla has always been known as a seductive oil; it increases production of sexual hormones (testosterone and estrogen), and there's a hefty dose of vanilla in our Miami fragrance! Miami also has musk in its base, which has a special effect on women. Musk makes women feel confident, sensual and sexy- men can't really smell it; women smell it 1000 times stronger than men do! But confidence is key in any seductive endeavor, so musk is a great thing to use!

Cleopatra, one of the most renowned lovers of all time, is reputed to have scented the sails of her ship with jasmine to seduce Mark Antony as she sailed to meet him. This sweet, pungent flower provides much of the sweetness found in our Miami scent.

Juicy Grapefruit, citrus[/caption]
People who wear a pink grapefruit scent are said to be perceived to be six years younger than their actual age! Now that's certainly sexy!

East Indian Sandalwood[/caption]
Men love the sweetness and woodiness of sandalwood and it has been shown in several studies to increase sexual arousal.

Exotic Ylang Ylang Flower[/caption]
Ylang Ylang is a rich, sultry scent that enhances libido and increases attraction between lovers. It can soothe the overanxious while boosting low energy. Ylang ylang has also been said to open emotions and promote a more sensual experience during love making.

! Brimming will all of these super sexy ingredients, it's sure to be an instant boost to your confidence!
Nomaterra was thrilled to be a part of Missionelle's Art of Seduction event at Toshi's Penthouse in the Flatiron Hotel last night! Our founder, Aggie Burnett, was invited to speak as part of a panel of fashion and beauty experts about the art of seduction. There was a lot of fantastic advice to be had, with gems like celebrity hairstylist Aleksandra Sasha Nesterchuk's insistence that to be seductive "you have to want to have sex with yourself!"
Following the panel, Nomaterra set up a fragrance corner where guests could try out a variety of different aphrodisiac blends. The blends were made with essential oils that are known aphrodisiacs such as lavender, ylang ylang, and jasmine. We also provided custom samples of our blends to guests so that they could test them out at home!
Thanks so much to everyone that came out and to Missionelle for allowing us to share our expertise. Happy Friday everyone!
